In Honor of Clare Robertson

On June 30th my Mimau, Clare Robertson, passed away. Services were held on July 2nd and 3rd in Savannah, GA where we laid her to rest in Bonaventure Cemetery. It was a surreal moment walking into her home without her being there, a moment where I lost it.

But as her grandson I had the honor of speaking at the funeral service and putting together a slide show of pictures we were able to find.

There are not enough words or pages to capture an entire person’s life, but in honor of Mimau, I would like to share who she was to me and to my family. Mimau has always inspired me to celebrate life, to smile and to have fun. I will miss her. She always loved to have a grand party on the 4th of July and today will be no different.

Below is the text from my eulogy for my Mimau. . .

GRAND

Mimau. There is no one like Mimau and no one can ever take her place in this world. She is a spirited woman with a grand smile and laugh that can light up any room as well as all our hearts.

Mimau. She struggled with pain, uncertainty, fear but found ways to show us her joy and share in ours as well. Mimau was not perfect, but she was perfect to us.

Mimau. I didn’t get a chance to tell her goodbye or that I would see her later. I could not bear to see Mimau in pain any longer, but she must know that I did not want her to go.

Stop. Start Over.

Mimau. She doesn’t want us/me to be sad. She wants us/me to celebrate her life and that grand smile we were blessed to share with her. She filled the world with color.

From the tap tap tapping of her tap shoes to the delicious smells and tastes in her kitchen, Mimau taught us to live and to love each moment and have fun.

Mimau. She is at peace now having her own celebration with Sister, Suzanne, George and others who have impacted our lives, come and then gone.

Mimau. Her spirit now with God, traveling through time, through memories, now in each of us/me. We/I must carry her spirit throughout the rest of our days on this Earth.

Mimau. I pledge to celebrate your strength, your joy, your song.

Mimau. I love you Mimau. You truly are Grand.

Happy 4th of July Mimau! We love you :)
